This is a fairly crazy thing to do, but I want to do it anyway!
This section of the MidState trail is 21 miles. Yes, 21 miles. I wish to hike 21 miles in one day. Anyone want to join me? It's the perfect time of year to do a long hike like this because we have the most daylight hours at this time of year. Still, 21 miles is alot. The most I have ever hiked in one day is 17 or so and I was pretty damn tired. I'll keep a moderate pace and I think we should be able to finish by 7 pm, maybe earlier. Bring your headlamp just in case!!!!
This is a rugged trail, often under-maintained. I have absolutely loved every section of this trail that I have hiked thus far because it is not as well used as many other trails: quite often I have not seen anyone all day while hiking on the MidState.
The plan: We'll drive up Saturday afternoon and grab a campsite at either Penn Roosevelt SP (preferred) or Poe Paddy SP or Greenwood Furnace SP. We can't reserve one night in advance if it is a Saturday (DCNR policy), so we'll have to play it by ear. As a last resort, we can always tent camp on my dad's cabin's lawn although it's about 30 miles away. We'll do the car shuttle Saturday evening so we can get an early start Sunday morning.
Bring plenty of food and water, we'll need the energy.
Hope you can come!!!
I am still totally in....I think the others may be scared.... :)
Yay Paul! I can't wait to see the new mini. We need to take two cars because it is a shuttle hike. I can drive, too, so maybe Kimber will want to ride with one of us?
Ok, Paul, here are the "stats": 21 miles, 10 hours hiking time, total ascent 4050, total descent 4750.
No on else wants to do this slightly crazy hike with Kimber and myself? C'mon, you know you want to!
