Mid State Trail, RB Winter SP to Ravensburg SP

I want to do a loooong hike again! This is a fairly crazy thing to do, but I want to do it anyway!

This section of the MidState trail is 20 miles. Yes, 20 miles. I wish to hike 20 miles in one day. Anyone want to join me? There is still enough daylight left to do this: come September, I won't be able to do 20 miles before the sun sets, so this is likely the last time I'll do this until next year. Paul Rei and I hiked 21 miles last month and it was awesome! I'll keep a moderate pace, just like before, and I think we should be able to finish by 7 pm, maybe earlier. Bring your headlamp just in case!!!!

This is a rugged trail, often under-maintained. I have absolutely loved every section of this trail that I have hiked thus far because it is not as well used as many other trails: quite often I have not seen anyone all day while hiking on the MidState. In fact, when Paul and I hiked the 21-mile section last month, we didn't see anyone on the trail all day! We did see quicksand and a deer skull, though!

The plan: We'll drive up Saturday afternoon and grab a campsite at either RB Winter SP (preferred) or Ravensburg SP. We can't reserve one night in advance if it is a Saturday (DCNR policy), so we'll have to play it by ear. We'll do the car shuttle Saturday evening so we can get an early start Sunday morning. I MAY be able to get someone to shuttle us, but I won't know that until closer to the date. So for now, let's plan on shuttling our own cars and it will just be a bonus if it turns out that we don't have to.

Bring plenty of food and water, we'll need the energy.

Hope you can come!!!

It's just a dayhike, Murthy. But I live 4 hours from the trailhead, so Hong Mei and I are going to drive up the night before and camp. If you only want to do the hike, that's fine. Just meet us at RB Winter SP at 7 am Sunday morning.

I don't know the address. Just go to RB Winter State Park. I'll make arrangement with you a little closer to the hike date.
