This hike is about 9 miles total (11 if we hike around the pond) with about 2000 feet of elevation gain. Starting in the Dunnfield Creek Parking Area, we will begin by climbing on the steep, rocky red-dot trail to Mt Tammany (elev 1527'.) After a short rest, we will continue on the blue-dot trail down to the intersection with the green Dunnfield Hollow Trail. We will continue along the Dunnfield Hollow Trail, crossing the Dunnfield Creek several times before we begin our climb to Sunfish Pond. After a break for lunch we will walk around Sunfish Pond (time permitting) and then return to the parking lot via the Appalachian Trail.
Wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots. Bring plenty of water, some snacks, and lunch. I'll ask for a $1 donation (optional) for this hike
I've done this hike several times and there are a few things that are important to know before you sign up. The initial trail up to Mt Tammany is steep and rocky. The Dunnfield Hollow Trail is well marked and maintained, but the creek crossings are not bridges: they are rock hops. The rocks could be wet and slippery.
We can arrange carpools closer to the hike date.
Use this link (http://www.nps.gov/de...) for detailed directions from I 80 to the Dunnfield parking area.
I'll be carpooling with Bill K from Willow Grove with room for 2 more.
Alyssa, I live in Lower Saucon so Emmaus is only about 10 minutes away. I don't mind driving. Any idea when/where you'd like to meet. (Maybe Lehigh St exit on 78?)
I'm leaving from the Main Line area. Anyone want to carpool? I can either drive or be a passenger. It'll be my last east coast hike for awhile! Also I was considering bringing my Jetboil for maybe some tea or hot cocoa.
Yay, Angela and Tom!!!!! It'll be great to hike with you again.
